Monday 5th December 2011 marked the momentous occasion of the
inaugural meeting of the Glasgow Umbraco Users Group, or GLUUG as
Doug Robar has affectionately christened
us - even though he can't quite pronounce it in the required
Scottish accent (but then, neither can I for that matter!)
Doug gave an introductory talk about the new Umbraco version 5 that is
due imminently, and I followed with a talk about what I (and
others) thought was going to be great about v5, from a more
technical point of view. Jamie Boyd and David Muir spoke of their
experiences with developing the Macdonald Hotels
website with a focus on the Umbraco integration and mobile
development angles. The venue was kindly provided by Rob Graham at Equator, and there was time for folk to eat
some pizza, drink some beer and mingle and chat.

The general consensus seems to be that it was an enjoyable
evening and that there is plenty of interest in continuing with
GLUUG meetups in the future. Check out the gluug hashtag or follow me on twitter, and any
future events will be added to the our.umbraco.org events page as
well.
A big thanks goes to Doug for his talk, for taking lots of photos,
and for having the idea in the first place, and to Rob for
facilitating such a good space for the talk. The plan is to have a
social gathering (i.e. in the pub) some time in January and maybe
have another set of talks in the February meetup. This'll give you
time to work on your presentations!
