Web Garden batteries recharged

Monday, November 03, 2008 by David Conlisk

It's always great to get away for a while and I really needed the break, but I'm back now after my holiday and looking forward to the next couple of months of work.

At the moment there are two Umbraco v4 sites in the pipeline which will be coming online in the next six weeks.

The first is a custom e-commerce solution which I am very pleased with. It's my first step towards a general purpose Umbraco shopping cart - perhaps I'll be able to release it as a package in the future? It has a slick AJAX shopping cart and of course the power of the Umbraco admin section for complete control over the sections in the site, and the products in each section. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is very important, and so there is an automated Google sitemap and full control over the meta tags at the individual page level.

The second site is more data-driven, where the client has an existing site which they are happy with but they just don't like the back-end content management system. So I will be translating their site, so to speak, to use Umbraco v4. This will involve integrating existing functionality, interfacing with external databases, a number of different members areas on the site - quite an interesting project this one.

So I'm looking forward to the next few weeks with some interesting work and some new sites going live that I will showcase properly here on the site when the time comes. Meanwhile of course I'll be blogging about any useful experiences I have with Umbraco v4 - as with most members of the Umbraco community I am really looking forward to the full production release as the feature set will be excellent!

Cheers,

David
